🏃‍♀️ Introducing our 2026 #BroSisRuns team of staf 🏃‍♀️ Introducing our 2026 #BroSisRuns team of staff runners: Meet Brittany, who is taking on her third TCS New York City Marathon with BroSis!

"Running has become my sacred time. It's how I clear my head, recenter myself, and refuel my mind, body, and spirit. It’s one of my practices of ensuring that I am cared for in the ways that I encourage so many of our young people to do."

For Brittany, it’s about more than just the finish line. Running for BroSis is an opportunity to uplift our work in Harlem, create space for important conversations, and invest in the young people who inspire her every single day.

Being part of Team #BroSisRuns also means being surrounded by coworkers who have become close friends - training together, encouraging one another, and finding joy in the journey.

👟 Brittany’s Training Tip: "Running is really just a mental game - our bodies are capable so much more than we think. Trusting your body, trusting your intuition, and allowing your mind to also help you in doing that is really important."

🔗 Donate through the link in our bio and help us cross the finish line together.

Last month, our training team traveled to Berkeley Last month, our training team traveled to Berkeley, CA, for an remarkable 4-day Rites of Passage (ROP) training.

Over four days, participants immersed themselves in experiential learning, community building, deep reflection, and skill development rooted in BroSis’ approach to youth development, rites of passage, restorative practices, and liberatory education.

4 Phases of ROP in 4 Days
🤝 Day 1: Building community. The group created the same foundation of trust, belonging, and care that we strive to cultivate with the young people we serve.
📚 Days 2 & 3: They explored culturally responsive pedagogies, experienced a demonstration workshop on dismantling misogyny, and heard from BroSis’ Rites of Passage alumni through a virtual panel to share how this work continues to shape their lives.
🕯️ Day 4: Together, they defined what it means to be a Torchbearer. They wrote personal oaths of dedication and read them aloud by candlelight - a powerful moment marked by reflection, vulnerability, and purpose.

Participants shared that the training:
• Recentered them in their purpose and values
• Equipped them with practical tools for youth work
• Fostered meaningful relationships with peers
• Created space for healing and personal reflection
• Deepened their understanding of culturally responsive, relationship-centered youth development

💬 "This is the most impactful training that I have ever participated in."

BroSis staff left feeling deeply grateful for this new Berkeley family and the connections that were built. To everyone who showed up with open minds and open hearts - thank you for making this experience so meaningful.

Week 1 in Ghana has been nothing short of unforget Week 1 in Ghana has been nothing short of unforgettable for our International Study Program members! 🇬🇭

✈️ Day 1-2: Their journey began with an unexpected overnight stay in Togo due to airline delays. Our members embraced the adventure, celebrating an extra passport stamp before arriving in Accra, where they were welcomed with incredible hospitality, delicious food, and an evening of dancing.
🗣️ Day 3: Members began the day with an Ewe language lesson before visiting the University of Ghana for a powerful Ghanaian dance workshop. Through movement, history, and storytelling, they experienced the joy and cultural significance behind this important art form.
🏛️ Day 4: They explored Accra's historical landmarks, including Independence Square, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, and the National Museum. They were also thrilled to have BroSis' former Associate Executive Director, @CidraMaria, and her family join for the day!
🌿 Day 5: Adventure awaited at Shai Hills Reserve, where members hiked, encountered wildlife, and visited a renowned bead maker who transforms recycled materials into beautiful works of art.
🍫 Day 6: The group toured the @nichecocoafactoryghana, where they learned about Ghana's rich cocoa industry (with plenty of chocolate tasting!). They then spent an inspiring afternoon with author, artist, and activist @akosua_hanson, who shared her journey and discussed her comic series, “Moongirls”. She encouraged our members to reflect on their own unique superpowers, embrace their voices, and continue stepping boldly into their light. The day concluded with members presenting their first seminar of the trip, putting months of preparation and study into practice.

From enjoying jollof rice, fufu, stews, and shito to connecting with people whose warmth has made Ghana feel like home, our members are discovering that some lessons can be taught, but others simply have to be experienced.
