Food Program

At BroSis, we believe that food access and education are critical to leading healthy lives. In New York City and across the country, Black and Latinx youth bear the brunt of unequal access to essential resources, especially food, which too often also results in long-term disparities in health outcomes.

Food Justice is Social Justice. BroSis was made for this.

How

Our Food Program combines hands-on food education with access to nutritious, unprocessed, and culturally appropriate food.

Food Access

The young people we serve live and work in communities that lack access to affordable and nutritious food. We provide meals and snacks to every young person that enters our building – no questions asked. Our team of culinary experts plan, source, and procure the freshest foods. Everything in our commercial kitchen is made from scratch, ensuring that everything is crafted with care and attention to nutrition, while respecting dietary restrictions that are culturally relevant.

Food Education

Through culinary classes and workshops, our young people and surrounding community members, develop essential life skills, embrace creativity, step outside their comfort zones, and understand healthier eating habits. This transformative program allows our members to become self-sufficient in the kitchen, while expanding their palettes by introducing new flavors and ingredients.

Why

A hearty and well-balanced meal can drastically improve a child’s emotional and physical well-being. We want to ensure that our youth understand the positive impact nutritious food can have on their lives and have the basic skills needed to safely operate a kitchen environment.
