We are lucky to have had James Beard award-winning

We are lucky to have had James Beard award-winning chef, restaurateur, and children’s book author, @ASmalls777 visit BroSis HQ to speak with our elementary school members. He performed a reading of his new book, “When Alexander Graced the Table”, followed by a Q&A led by our Executive Chef Rebecka Jerome. Our young people jumped at the opportunity to ask him about his inspirations, background, and career. But the most frequently asked question was “can you please make your Lemon Icebox Pie with Meringue for us?” To their delight, our kitchen crew had prepared all of the dishes mentioned in Chef Smalls’ book including the famous pie! MindFest 2025 was a huge success! Thank you to our workshop facilitators and panelists for creating a safe environment for open and honest conversations. Throughout the full-day conference, sessions delved into a wide range of topics, including the absence of mental health resources in schools, the school-to-prison pipeline, the expansion of restorative justice practices, pathways to self-discovery, and much more. Attendees walked away with tools for igniting change and new perspectives on healing.

We were fortunate to have Chair of the Committee on Education in the NYC Council Rita Joseph (District 40), NYC Council Member Shaun Abreu (District 7), and NYC Council Member Carmen De La Rosa (District 10) provide hopeful and inspiring closing remarks. Thank you for seeing and uplifting the power of our young people!

Shout out to the youth organizing members of our Liberation Program for leading this movement for their peers. This conference is part of our continued efforts to raise awareness about the lack of mental health support for young people and to advocate for increased funding and staffing to address this critical need. 💙✊🏾

BroSis is in the @NYtimes!

@Michael_Kimmelman, the architecture critic of The New York Times and the founder and editor-at-large of Headway, recently returned to BroSis to see our building in action - not just to revisit the architecture, but to witness the life, community, and love that fills it.

“BroSis’s home has become even more of a haven for the young people it serves. These days the suggestion of an upraised hand can bring to mind fortitude, a fist and a beacon.” That’s what BroSis is. A beacon. A movement. A model for what’s possible when you believe in young people and provide them with the resources they need to thrive.

Michael first toured our space when it was newly built, and he came back to see how it has allowed us to expand and deepen our work, from food access and mental health support to environmental justice and the arts. He reflects on the intentional and deeply considered architectural design elements that make our building a hub for innovation and support. In talking with our very own, @klwsees, Michael also writes about how we are navigating and responding to the current political landscape.
