Art has the power to challenge perspectives, illum

Art has the power to challenge perspectives, illuminate untold stories, and bring communities together. At BroSis, we believe creative expression is a vital tool for young people to explore identity, share their experiences, and imagine new possibilities for the future. At Voices, we celebrate our collective efforts to make those things possible.

This year we are honored to celebrate Derek Fordjour: acclaimed contemporary artist and cultural storyteller.

A leading voice in today’s art world, Fordjour’s richly layered, interdisciplinary practice explores identity, community, power, and performance. Through painting, sculpture, installation, and immersive environments, his work challenges viewers to reconsider cultural narratives and the structures that shape them.

In 2025, Fordjour was named a Gordon Parks Foundation Artist Fellow, recognizing his profound impact on contemporary culture. His mural, “Backbreaker Double”, currently displayed on NYC’s High Line, depicts the pride and ritual rooted in the traditions of historically Black colleges and universities. We are proud to have had Derek visit us earlier this year to talk with our members, and to have his work displayed in our headquarters.

Last month, our Brotherhood members hit the ice at @wollmanrinknyc for a winter break outing filled with laughs, encouragement, and first-time skaters finding their balance. Whether gliding or wobbling, everyone was simply happy to be together. ⛸️ ❄️

🐾 Paws & Play 🐾

This year’s Paws & Play invited our members to slow down and move with intention. Through staff-facilitated yoga sessions, alongside some very adorable puppy partners, young people were able to stretch, breathe, and ground themselves in community.

By creating space to practice wellness while snuggling pups, we offered more than just a break in the day. We cultivated ease, joy, and connection, and provided a reminder that caring for ourselves and each other is essential to everything we do.
