Building skills. Building community. Building a more sustainable future.

Throughout the summer, members of our Environmental Program have been building hands-on skills in horticulture, sustainability, food justice, and community organizing while discovering how these issues are deeply connected.

Here's a look at some of what they've been up to:
🌿 Learning what it means to be land stewards through garden maintenance, botany, irrigation, propagation, and urban horticulture.
🔨 Building mini garden beds for local community spaces while developing sustainable design and construction skills, including the safe use of power tools.
♻️ Visiting @CompostPower and the Newtown Creek Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility to explore composting, wastewater treatment, and the systems that help keep our city sustainable.
🤝 Connecting with fellow youth leaders at the NextGen Changemakers Summit at Lincoln Center to exchange ideas and strategies for advancing social and environmental justice.
📚 Exploring @ABCNoRio to see one of NYC's largest zine libraries, learn about grassroots organizing and community resilience.

Every experience is helping our young people strengthen their leadership, deepen their connection to their communities, and develop the knowledge and confidence to create a more just and sustainable future. 💚

Last week, members of our Liberation Program and E

Last week, members of our Liberation Program and Environmental Program joined the Children’s Rally for Justice at the Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling - a powerful gathering rooted in creativity and collective action.

Together with children, youth, families, and community members, we rallied in solidarity for housing justice, equitable education, immigration reform, cultural arts and expression, and safety and opportunity for all.

Inspired by the legacy of the 1917 Silent Parade, the rally created space for young voices to be heard and celebrated through art, music, storytelling, and civic engagement. The afternoon featured art-making activities, a letter-writing campaign for justice, live painting by renowned artist Andrea Arroyo, music by DJ Neil K, and performances by The Marching Cobras of New York.

Participants wore white as a symbol of peace, unity, and hope. Our members shared a moving spoken word poem and performed step choreography that deeply touched the audience.

We are grateful to have been part of a day that honored history while uplifting the voices shaping our future. ✊🏾🎨✨

What if professional development didn't feel like

What if professional development didn't feel like another meeting? What if it felt like remembering why you started this work in the first place? That's the kind of learning experience we strive to create at the BroSis Training Institute.

We recently launched our first-ever 2-Day Facilitation Skills Lab, bringing together educators, youth workers, and community organizers to explore popular education, facilitation as a practice of liberation, Theatre of the Oppressed, systems thinking, and embodied learning. Then we put it all into practice through play, reflection, movement, and community. Attendees shared:
"Thank you for creating a safe space for creative risks."
"This was the perfect balance between theory and praxis."
"I wish this was a required training for all public school teachers."
