Vanessa Marquez
Director of Development
Vanessa Marquez joins The Brotherhood Sister Sol as Director of Development with 15 years of experience in resource development. She has worked to fundraise for and build the brands of social ventures that bring opportunity and equity to under-resourced communities. She has worked with organizations big and small, national and hyper-local alike – specializing in galas and events, portfolio management, and strategic planning that helps create, scale, and optimize creative solutions to the country’s most pressing social challenges.
Prior to joining, Vanessa served as Vice President of Development and Marketing for New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE), a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of immigrants and their families through workforce development and pandemic relief resources. At NICE, she raised over $12M, achieving 300% growth in annual revenue and securing foundation grants from some of the leading national and NYC foundations. She also secured the organization’s largest-ever grant to support the expansion of its building.
Vanessa previously served as Youth INC’s Director of Marketing, Communications, and Event Planning. At Youth INC, Vanessa led the organization’s multi-million dollar annual galas and digital marketing efforts. She previously served as Director of Communications and Marketing at New Yorkers For Children, where she raised $5M, spearheaded marketing and fundraising efforts, managed corporate partnerships and public relations, and led the production of the organization’s signature galas.
Prior to leading fundraising and marketing at New Yorkers for Children, she spent almost a decade fundraising at Single Stop, a national nonprofit spun out of the Robin Hood Foundation. Vanessa is guided by a deep-seated passion for empowering marginalized and oppressed communities. She is a graduate of Queens College, CUNY.
