Jorge Andres Ramirez

Jorge Andres Ramirez earned his B.S in Environmental Science from Appalachian State University in 2020. He has been composting, cultivating gardens, and organizing communities around environmental stewardship for the last decade by ingraining scientific principles into interactive workshops for all walks of life to learn. After graduation, Jorge helped fund Q’ Pasa Appalachia, a bilingual communal web series centered around Latinx empowerment for the spanish-speaking community in Western North Carolina. During his tenure, he produced audio-visual content as a means to engage with the greater Latinix community and secured a grant to offer mental health services and outreach from the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI). breaking cultural barriers and facilitating agency for those needing assistance in the local Latinx community.
In 2022 Jorge returned to his home country Peru to establish Muyuna Foundation (MF), a non-profit organization focused on strengthening socio-environmental resilience in 2 rural Amazonian communities from the Yanayacu River. In this Amazon river tributary, MF has worked to organize communities and identify cultural needs and contextual disparities. In partnership with local communities, Jorge’s organizing and advocating work has resulted in building a communal house, starting a youth development program, and promoting sustainable waste management practices in the impacted area. Before coming to BroSis, Jorge was a Physics and AP Biology teacher in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
