Helen Stewart

Deputy Director of Development & Communications

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Morgan State University, Helen Stewart gained over fifteen years of invaluable experience leading development teams and organizing fundraisers for local, national, and international nonprofit organizations.

Helen recently served as the Senior Director of Development with Brooklyn’s Mercy Home for Children, an organization dedicated to providing homes and services for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. Here, Helen contributed her expertise to the Mercy Home Development team to increase and diversify their fundraising streams, organize donor engagement opportunities, and successfully establish their annual fundraisers.

Helen has worked at transformative nonprofits, including the Public Theater, Public Allies, Hispanic Federation, and Equality Now, an international organization whose mission is to advocate for women and girls’ rights around the globe. For three years, Helen oversaw the organizing and logistics of their national and international events, including their largest fundraising galas dedicated to honoring feminist and cultural icons such as Gloria Steinem, Jane Fonda, and Salma Hayak.

She has also served on the Willie Mae Rock Camp board, a nonprofit organization using music education to empower today’s youth.

Equipped with her passion for social justice and women’s rights initiatives, Helen is proud to do her part in making a difference for those in need.
