Shannon J. Effinger

Development Associate for Grant Writing & Institutional Giving

A native New Yorker hailing from Brooklyn, Shannon joins Bro/Sis from the Bronx Museum of the Arts, where as executive grants writer she worked to ensure funding for the Bronxโ€™s only contemporary art museum. An experienced grant-writer, she has also been instrumental in securing funds for the Brooklyn Arts Council, Cool Culture, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the White Wave Dance Company.

Shannon is also a professional journalist, with over a decade of experience covering music, film, and theater across the globe. Her work has appeared in numerous publications including NPR, EBONY, Pitchfork, Downbeat, Jazzwise, JazzTimes, OkayPlayer, and Time Out New York, among others.

Shannon has a bachelorโ€™s degree from New York University, where she majored in English and American Literature and minored in Africana Studies, and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Sarah Lawrence College.
